There are many Camellia hybrids that can be planted in zone 6. I have five planted in my garden. The oldest is about 16 years old, and it's 7 feet tall and 6 feet wide. It's called "April Blush". There is another of the same variety about 4x4 feet. Then I have one called "April Kiss" and also one of "April Dawn". All of these are spring blooming. I also have a fall blooming type called "Snow Flurry" which had a few flowers open until a couple of days ago.

I don't protect them, however, they are planted against a south facing wall and fence. They are also protected from winter morning sun, and most of the summer sun. Some are in the shadow of a larger holly, the others in shade from a spruce.

It's important that you find the ones that are hardy in zone 6. There are dozens of kinds that you can grow now. Many new hybrids have been developed. That was not always the case, but now if you check the hardiness listed by the grower, you can find quite a variety. I would suggest looking online at Camforest.com website. I've bought from them and the plants are healthy and they offer different sizes at different prices which is nice. You can also search by hardiness zone, so you can see all the ones that they offer for zone 6.

Mike, no fragrance on most Camellias, even the less hardy ones. There is one offered by Logee's in Danielson, CT, that has fragrance, but it's not hardy outdoors here in New England.
