Tv tuner?

4 yr old Visio tv. Get blank screen with " no signal" input. I tune tv to any SD Chanel and I get video but no sound. I am using hdmi 1. I tried hdmi 2 port and I get zip. Tried component cables. Nothing. I do not have any coax cables. So I have not tried to use the antenna input. I am basically using aux input with an external tuner. Direct tv in this case. No cable tuner involved. But the tv tuner is also a switching device. Sounds like a bad tuner section to me.

Did it quit working recently or has this setup never worked?

It used to work. 3 yr old tv. we bought it new. Worked from day 1.

I am unclear about your issue. You said 'no input' and blank screen; but then say you get video without sound. When I get 'no input' from Directv, it is always that the Directv is actually off or having difficulties and a reboot almost always solves the problem.

Oops I was wrong. It is an insignia tv. Bestbuy cheapo model. I am using hdmi port #1. I get a message on screen that says no signal detected. I tried switching cable to port 2. I get same message on port 2. I got new cable. Same message.

I than hooked up component cables and I get video but no sound. Yes the 5 cable component set. Sad that bestbuy sells a 3 cable component video cable but no 5 cable video/audio sets. I had to use 2 sets of cables. But I digress.

I rebooted directv receiver. I talked to directv customer service. I unplugged tv power. Reset all tv presets. i switched out tv for 2nd set and directv/hdmi works fine. Never tried coax input on tv. Not interested in SD picture quality.

Xbox was hooked up to hdmi port #2 before. It also did not work when we tried. Got same message. No signal detected. Bites since Xbox has hdmi output only. Works fine now on new tv. We contemplated using a sound bar for audio and component video but than Xbox would be left out of loop. Life is complicated sometimes.

Maybe just buy a better tv to start with.

It sounds like there are problems with the TV. I've heard that HDMI inputs can go bad rather frequently. However it sounds like the component inputs are not working either, at least the audio inputs.

When you say you are "tuning the TV to any SD channel and get picture but no sound", how are you getting signal when you do that? Over the air, or through the Direct TV box? I'm guessing that's still through the box, which suggests your TV has a bad audio processing section.
