A simple stacked stone wall in front of the door would give you a little height and move you in the direction you are going for. The stacked stone would be much easier and less expensive than a concrete planter. Keeping with a minimalist design, it is important to carefully select your plants. Plant from low to high gaining height closer to the home. It will give a proper scale. I would remove all of the yucca, yews and the green plant next to the drive. Keep the Japanese maple. Grasses go really well in a minimalist design with boxwood or daylily. Maybe put some burning bush or purple sand cherry on the left side of the house for height.
