Sneak Peek

I have been working steadily on my double pinwheel over the past couple days. Memory recall hit and I now remember trying this pattern once before with terrible results vowing never again and what happens - here I am with 12 blocks cut so there's no turning back. I have been very careful on my trimming and making sure all those weird angles are sitting right and everything fits nicely. I also thought back on my days when I felt such a need for everything to be perfect and how I would rip and resew to try to get there. Then I made my first scrappy string quilt and I loved how there was no need to be perfect and it always turned out nice. I traded " Perfect" for "Enjoy". Now don't get me wrong, I admire all quilts as a whole -- I don't look for the tiny details, just enjoy the entire project. I don't do many quilt pattern projects anymore because I can't come close to perfect and that sometimes frustrates me so I mostly do strings.

Here is a sneak peak of my progress so far, 3 blocks to go.

Your blocks look beautiful! Such soft, subtle colors. I'm so glad that you have traded "perfect" for "enjoy." That's what quilting should be about IMHO. And they look pretty perfect to me.

It is going to be a lovely quilt. Don't give up. Sometime the ones that give us the most grief become our favourites.

Wonderful blocks! Quilting should be about enjoyment and a sense of pride in what we are making. When it gets too frustrating or tedious, that's when I get up from the sewing table and just walk away.

My point of view, for anyone out there.....If you look close up at photos of quilts, even quilted by professional quilters, you will see that a lot of them are not perfect at all......I think there is a balance between the two, do the best you can and enjoy it. I do not want a sloppy made quilt but I also want it to look nice. Most of the time you or anyone else will not see those small imperfections, especially after the quilt is washed and dried a few times and takes on the wrinkled vintage look, which I just love. For me quilting is relaxing and takes me away from stress and takes my mind off of problems... not the other way around.

Thank you everyone for your encouragement. The blocks are done and only 2 didn't quite end up square. I was a lot more careful working with the bias cuts and my trimming. I enjoyed working with the fabrics and the double pinwheel pattern was okay but I probably won't do another, I call it challenging.

Your fabric selection for this pattern is lovely!

I agree with all in that quilting should be an enjoyable process...if it turns to stress, it is not a hobby, or creative adventure...but a misery you have "should" on yourself....

Can't wait to see your quilt top!
