How large is the "dinette space" and how many are seated at this table? That will make a big difference in the size and visual weight of your light fixture. Is the table round? A standard rule of thumb is your chandelier should be no wider than 12 inches less the width of the table and should sit approximately 30" above the top of the table for a standard 8' ceiling. Raise the fixture 3" for each additional foot of ceiling height. Of course, height of your chandelier also depends on how solid it is. If it blocks to much or gets in the way of serving function, I raise it.

the space is an octagon shape about 12 feet wide by 92" deep- I was thinking an oval table but not having luck in finding one thats not very expensive so probably going with something like the picture I am sending.
