To me the challenge of your choices are not about color but more about contrast...the cabinetry presents a very dark presence that is diminished by also choosing a dark backsplash color..a much lighter choice will make the cabinetry more lush and rich by contrast...perhaps a stainless steel?...pale gray?...ivory or white?..whichever lends the most striking contrast to your eye..I wouldn't rule out a pale color completely as this may bring a little more life to the kitchen as well...an organic influence like the palest green as seen in natural jade or very pale sky or aqua blue with reference to water and sky..

The butlers pantry would benefit also by the contrast...especially if there is less natural light there

Just curious...how do you plan on using and accessing those cabinets on top?

Jillian's choices look perfect- a nod to classic motifs, but modern, with some interest. They look expensive, though!
