Thank you for the documentation, Frank! Fortunately my severe problems with Bulb Scale Mites are history, the critters apparently decided to go into exilium, after I changed my fertilizer from "Substral" to "Wuxal" + "Nitrophoska". May-be they didn't appreciate the Vitamin B1 in "Wuxal"? Anyways / on all accounts: No red spots and blotches on my bulbs any more - what a relief, finally.

Maybe drenching with B1 is a secret hint!

what kind of pumice do you use? Where do you buy it? I'm in Germany too, use cocohum, Blähton and vermiculite, but have still problems with rotting bulbs. I think I will try the Wuxal too. @ Sir Hans: Which Wuxal do you use? The normal or the Blütenpracht?

Fred....make one!! Hans-Werner has clearly stated several times how he made these crosses!

I have plenty of Papilio pollen but I don't have Donau and I must have missed Hans' post on how he made the crosses.

I just looked at Hans' previous posts..now I'm salivating.

Don't self pollinate H.papilio.

Get any "ordinary" Hippeastrum and their pollen respectively, and pollinate on H.papilio. You will get tons of seeds (up to 120 per seed pod) and you will have tio inspect them immediately once the seed pod has opened, in order to find the few viable seeds NAMELY those with a sunflower grain shaped embryo in them. Before they even dry up and make any discrimination impossible.

Oooooo Fred....now you can start your own amazing crosses!!
