String lights ...

last modified: 10 years ago

Costco had 48 ft. string lights on sale and Bob put several strands around the perimeter of the yard. They look so festive it makes us want to give an evening party, but I expect it'll be mostly for us to enjoy. Maybe some night I can take better pictures, but this is what I've got for now to perhaps encourage someone else to consider using them ...

Anyone else using string lights?

I love using old Christmas lights with covers that look like chili peppers and suns. We've cleaned and reused the covers for a long time and they are beginning to fade.

I love the type that you have, they really cast a lot of party light :-)

Hello friend! We just bought that same strand of lights and hung them up this past weekend. Looked through your sites and picture, very nice.

I borrowed a set of string lights last summer and they looked great for the evening wedding reception we hosted for our daughter. We also used Christmas lights that evening, but they provide ambiance rather than light. Just this week, I have been looking at buying string lights and now I see from your post that I can pick some up at Costco. They may be cheaper than Amazon. I also see that Target carries string lights.

Your garden looks beautiful with the lights, Roselee.

We have solar string lights along our fence and solar rope lights under our patio. They're a little more formal, but I love that they are solar. I would love to find some that mimicked fireflies.

I like the idea. In texas the nicest time to be in the yard and garden is at night (at least 3/4 of the year)

Thank you all for your comments. I like the fancy ones and the covers for Chistmas lights as well as the nostalgic look that the bare bulbs give. Also having solar powered lights sounds very convenient.

Incidentally, the ones we purchased at Costco seem extra sturdy, the clear bulbs are 11 wts. and the 48 bulb set come with a dozen replacement bulbs.

We have the same lights, love them. We've strung them around our patio then we have Christmas lights zipping around our backyard. It makes for a cozy atmosphere. I've found the best time to get outdoor lighting is after the summer season and the box stores and clearing out to make room for winter things.
