Entryway/basement needs help!

Any ideas on how I can make this look better? My idea was to close off the existing stairs (pic 1)and put them along the wall (pic 2) What could I put there where I would close it off? It has a slanted ceiling so I'm not sure but would like it to look more welcoming.

When you come in the door, are there two sets of stairs: one in front of you going down and one on the left going up?

HI -- I lived in a house that had stairs like this . If you make stairs going down to the right , then the slanted space could then be the closet once the floor is built in and a storage area in the basement under . Do you have the room to have new stairs that will be in code ?

Yes, there are another set of stairs to the left. I wish there was a way to make a little bigger landing if I moved the stairs but I'm just not sure I could :(

I would like the stairs to go where the coats are hung now. The basement is the next project that I'm not looking forward to!
