Instant Hot Water?

We are almost through with our Kitchen remodel and I discovered that we had an instant hot water dispenser in our design and pricing. Not a bad issue to have I suppose, but I have never had one before. I want something small and sleek (we are installing a Brizo Vuelo faucet, which is a bit hard to match in this regard), so we are considering the InSinkErator Involve H Wave Hot Only - Chrome Faucet and Tank. Any thoughts or concerns with this model? Also, I have heard that these things go bad at some point, so I am thinking of mounting the heater in/over a pan with a water monitor to catch anything before it would do significant damage. Has anyone done something like this?

Had ISE insta hot and went through 3 tanks at about 2 1/2 year intervals. When they leak it can cause major damage, so your idea of a pan makes sense. Ours leaked from the bottom of the tank so a pan would have to cover the entire base. Switched to a Wasteking which was significantly cheaper and had slightly better longevity reviews on Amazon (also switched to Wasteking disposal from ISE). We're about a year into the insta hot with about 6 months of daily use and no problems, but my ISEs also lasted that long before failing, so it's too early to tell. If they weren't so useful and had an inline filter I wouldn't have one. We reached a point where when traveling we cut the water and power off to the unit.

I've had ISEs and been pleased with them (as well as the customer service). I initially selected ISE because of faucet match and they had the hottest water settings at the time (I don't know if that is still the case).

Cutting off water and power when you're traveling is a really good idea. A water alarm under the sink should be adequate and alert you to any leaks. I think they develop slow leaks, so catching it early should be good enough.

Thank you for that feedback. Where does the unit fail? And is it a drip leak, or does it pour out water? If it is a slow leak, a pan with z wave monitor can probably handle it. I am going with the Waste King (9980) disposal, but just liked the look of the InSinkerator hot water better.

We have had instant hot water/filtered cold water for years and years. We wouldn't be without it! Ours have been from Water Inc and they have worked like champs! We replaced our 12 yr old one with a new unit after we decided to change out our main faucet. The plumber recommended that we do so as most units last about 10 yrs. That's been our experience. They make a few different models. Here's a link.

We had an instahot unit sold by Waterstone, which went bad after 5 years (a leak coming from inside the unit). We didn't have major damage from the leak, but caught it fairly early. When we replaced it with another one sold by Waterstone, we also installed a device, made by Kooler Genius, that detects water leaks When one is detected it sounds an alarm and shuts off the water supply. A year after installation, it hasn't gone off yet, which is good, but also means I can't attest as to how well the detection/alarm/shutoff works.

We have lived in our home for almost 15 years. It had a Kitchenaid instant hot water dispenser when we bought it. About 5 years ago, we remodeled the kitchen. We wanted the dispenser to match our brushed stainless steel Grohe faucet, so we bought a new Kitchenaid model that matched very well. We have had no problems with them, other than a knob coming loose. We had to mount it further from the heater so I had to get a longer silicone hot water tube to do that. I feel really happy with Kitchenaid.

Your Kitchenaid note piqued my interest, but I could not find one :(. I am supposing they either don't make them anymore, or they are buried somewhere on their website where I could not find them. Oh well. I ended up going with the InSinkerator. Now I just need a pan to catch any leaks (with a leak detector). Any thoughts there? It would not need to be large.
