Heat Pump Air Handler Demensions

We may soon need to replace our 16 year old heat pump. What I am concerned about is that the air handler was installed in a corner of the coat closet. There is not much extra room. If a new one has different dimensions, it will require a remodel of that part of our house, because the back of the closet goes into the spare bedroom and closet. The bedroom is small to start with. I went online to look a dimension specs. but I could not find them. Our HP is a 2.5 ton unit and some manufacturers seem to only have full ton increments. Not sure what to do, when ours fails. It is usually when you need a heat pump quickly and can't wait for something to turn up that fits.

what are dimensions of existing air handler? Both Trane and sister company AmStd have measurements of air handlers on their respective websites. Of course you want an AHRI matching system when you do replace your system.

I just checked with a tape measure. I got:

    21 3/8" wide

    23" deep

    45" high

    10" April aire filter box

    11 3/4" bottom plenum mount?

    6" top plenum

    • top duct.

You should be able to find an air handler that fits without any major reconstruction. For example, the Rheem 3 ton model (RH1P) is 21wx22dx42h.

You should easily be able to find a 2.5 ton heat pump air handler that will fit in your closet. a 17 1/2" wide air handler should be available in Goodman, Amana, and Carrier. You will need to make sure your home is adequately wired to accept at least 10KW electric heat for backup and emergency heat. Easy, Easy! Feel free to visit our website and blog if you need more information. We also have a contact page if I can be of any assistance in selecting your system. IF for some reason, you just can't find a new air handler that will fit, remember your air handler is just a case with a fan and a heat section. As long as the case is good, the rest of it can be replaced very cost effectively. Feel free to visit us at Air and Energy Solutions.

We have a new Carrier air handler/heat pump(variable speed) that measures 21" W X 70 1/2" H X 22" D.. It can be paired with a 2, 2/12 or 3 ton outside condenser,. Also, there is the option to separate the blower unit from the coil box when installed to save space. BTW, we are selling the unit as we had to use a high velocity unit so the unit is brand new. A bargain for someone.

It is Carrier Model # FV4CNF003. You can message me if you want the owner's manual or any more info. I think one of us has to follow the other to send a message.
