Klimt? Large scale?

I also love your furniture.

And yes, you could go modern abstract to work with the furniture and bring the fireplace into focus that way, by contrast. But then I would look for a very simple image -- along the lines of the fourth image PQ Fine arts posted -- because that would reflect the furniture.

A lot depends on budget, of course.

consider something on fabric if your space is on the echo-y side.

Hi, you have such an elegant, sophisticated space. Not sure you really need to even add anything above the fireplace because that wall already has some very nice, refined details and finishes with the mantle, tile work, subtle/sophisticated colors.

But if you'd like to add something (perhaps to bring the one's focus more upward too?) take your time to find a piece of original artwork or wall art (grouping) that speaks to you (in the appropriate scale/size).

Also, though the art should complement the space stylistically....IMO it doesn't need to be coordinated to or closely match the other accents/accessories in the space.....especially for a space like yours.....and to achieve that overall curated look/feel.

If pulling colors from the art into your space, IMO it should be done with more subtlety (like in the 4th pic below). But overall, the artwork should speak to and about you and your family. So again for this beautiful focal wall.....take your time to find something you really love (vs. something that will/has to match your pillows, accessories, etc. other elements in your space).

Ok. So this is Brooke original poster. My son has autism and he sold a piece of art at a charity auction for $7000! I have a super high quality image of the painting and have had it blown up for a few people. Would you think this would work? It's kind of a crappy pic of it hanging in a beach house. But how large would you suggest? And are the colors too bold?

Can we have a picture of your painting without all the lights hanging in front of it?

It is/was very special. He did it when he was 5 years old, and all the money went to create an autism program at the children's hospital.

The painting is lovely. If it is not large enough, have it framed with a wide frame, no mat, to add inches.

I like it too, and it offers a suite of red, gold, and green as accents for this room -- I see you have a red chair seat already! :)

The size you show in the picture looks big enough for the fireplace. Give it serious consideration.

Brooke no question on hanging the enlarged art your son has painted..it tugs at my heartstrings...Absolutely hang it!! It will bring much life and excitement to your space!!!

Here is a beautiful pillow I found on Etsy.com would really work great in your space with your sons art work...I would mix it with some neutrals with texture...would you consider adding some faux fur pillows? Gray and cream faux fur would be a wonderful addition and really add some interest.
