I had a really bad experience with a Thermador oven; the control board went out and was impossible to replace or repair because I was told it was obsolete after 7 years. Bought a Wolf double oven and so far I love it!!

Your older thermador was probably before the BSH buyout. Today's thermadors should not run into that problem. Both are good units, but I prefer the thermador due to a larger interior and nicer features. Many users on here will point out the porcelain chipping issue on wolf ovens as well. I will concede that I have never run into it in the last 12 years...but its something to keep in mind!

I have duel 30" Therm convection circa 2006 and love them. Others here have indeed had problems but I've only run the self-cleaning once or twice and I think that's where the trouble came from. I do hammer both ovens at 450 & 525 often (bread and pizza) for hours on end and both ovens at the same time and they have been problem free. They also seem to stay clean at that temp.

As for top, bottom or both - both if you have the budget:for the flexibility. If only one, figure out which height you are most likely to be most comfortable with using most often and choose that one for convection.

One note - my ovens are loaded with neat convince features like the temp probe, delayed bake, timed bake, etc... I use none of them. I do use the standard bake, broil,roast, proof, warm, fast preheat, and the convection pairings, but none of the "smart" features. Carefully consider your cooking style before paying for the next upgrade in the line. I was so very tempted to kill the budget with an extra 2k or so on the Meile with the internal rotisserie and a few other features - pretty sure I never would have used those either.

Kalapointer, did Wolf replace your ESERIES if it had the flaking issue? I bought an E and it will be installed shortly. Thanks! Glad you are happy with the M.

htc - Wolf would not replace the first oven because I was 6 months out of warranty. I worked with the salesman that sold it to me and the local distributor and made a deal with them where I had to pay $500 for a replacement. The second oven was exchanged by Wolf as it was still under warranty and I had to pay more for the upgrade to the M. Keep a close watch on your oven's porcelain. Both of the E's chipped in the front bottom corners. I used a flash light to see it because the bright lights in the oven have a lot of reflection and made it hard to see. Call Wolf right away if you have any problems. Good luck with your ovens. Many owners have not had any problems and then there are those like me that did. I liked the E very much. It baked really well and evenly.

The current Thermador ovens have only been out a few months, so there is minimal real world data. They are smaller capacity and have a lower maximum temperature than the previous ones. If you search, there are a number of topics discussing them.
