Countertop advise

I am redoing my kitchen and have a tight budget (who doesn't??!). I love the quartz I chose for counters, however, am undecided on island counter- should I use the Quartz there too or re-use butcher block (10 years old, has a few stains I think can be sanded it and a couple spits between wood prices on end. This was purchased at Ikea- not sure if they sell this anymore. To buy new it is more expensive than the stone!
I love the function and softness of the butcher back, however, will be selling house in 1-2 years. Not sure of appeal for used butcher block vs stone.
I think the wood is in style now though. Would it be worth saving old butcher block (save $550) or buying new (cost about 550+) or using stone throughout. I need to make decision by Monday!

if you didnt have a plan to sell i'd say of course keep your butcher block, the imperfections are your own. but selling imperfect is different, and many (myself included) are shallow and dont want to deal with other peoples messes on a counter top. for that reason alone, i'd put a stone top on the island now and be done with it.

you could also choose to put a different top (not matching quartz) on the island if you could find a remnant of absolute black or something if your quartz is pricey. its up to you how much you want to mess around with this.

I love butcher block. Sanding should be able to make it look like new.

I love the look of the Butcher block myself, however, not everyone will feel the same about the butcher block. If it were me, for the sake of re-sale I would do the stone on the island...possibly save the butcher block for your next home :)

Thank you for your advice! I looked into a contrasting Quartz/ granite, however with the min of 25 sf I need to buy of the white stone (I only need 21sf for counters and will be buying 4sf at $85/sf more than I need if I don't use it for the island) buying a contrasting stone-even $20/sf less than white over all cost would be greater with two colors. The contrasting granite was really pretty though-a dark grey , that I could just buy 12 sf!

I love the idea of a darker island and lighter countertops. We did the opposite )(dark countertops, light island top) and I love it - also trendy--
