Yeah everything is staying the same. I thought about white but the walls and all the walls in my living room are white also.

I like the cabinets as they are. They provide some contrast to all of the gray tones, and warm up the space.

I like the color of the cabinets and would not change them. I think that the ceiling treatment would work on a 10' or higher ceiling, and this might be the issue.

I went to the Benjamin Moore site and cannot find See or Sea Salt color - please send picture. It is a light gray color? I agree with you that the cabinet color should change. The ceiling is really cool and edgy - sets the whole room off. What are you going for? Modern, rustic, beachy? You might want to check out the Milk paint stains; I believe I saw them at Lowes. I would stain your cabinets, not paint them. I think you know what you are doing and have a great sensibility. The coordination of the floors and counters is very successful. Great job!

Great color - will work very well - go for it!

So see you can do a test on one of your cabinets - strip is necessary, or sand a bit, rub on with a rag Sea Salt paint to get an uneven natural finish, see how that works with our existing elements. May I also suggest a change in your hardware/knobs/ pulls? Something less modern and more substantial visually.

would love to help you choose a color. I think something that slightly introduces another color would be great!

I'm starting to Move towards an off white cabinets, BM sea salt wall and for the front of the island, BM Kendall charcoal. What are your thoughts?

    In front of the kitchen

Sherwin Williams color not Benjamin Moore Color. The SW6204 means Sherwin-Williams paint with the number.

If you want something to blend then Sea Salt might work but I don't think it will pop..if that is the look you are going for. BM Chelsea Grey is a rich grey colour,,,,much darker and modern....if that is the look you want. IMO- White cabinets are timeless. It looks like you have a nice big open space....you could do the cabintes in two different colours like upper and lower cabinets or you could do your island in something different.

I just painted my cabinets white and my walls sea salt this past summer and we Looove it. Sea salt is the perfect green/blue/gray. Go for it!!

I especially like your countertops and the floor goes well with them. the home looks new. I'd not paint the kitchen any color until you've lived in the home for a while.

Personally, I'd likely leave wood cabinets looking like wood -- certainly at least the overhead cabinets. Painted wood, especially oak, will emphasize any crack that forms in the wood as it dries from the heat of the kitchen. Anything painted will, inevitably, need repainting and look awful as it gets close to needing to be repainted.

You could darken the wood of your kitchen cabinets without painting it if the color contrast is too much for your taste.

Light blue is very close to light gray and if you're not careful, you could end up with room that is not particularly warm looking or very welcoming -- a semi-monochromatic blah of a room.

If you've already decided you must paint...

... and if you had an island, I'd suggest you paint the base of that island cabinet and live with it for a while first. As is, I'd suggest you consider painting only the back (dining room) side of the base of the peninsula -- the wall under the bar -- first and live with that for a bit. I actually suspect a darker gray taupe would look better than any shade of blue below the bar and show kick smudges less than blue. You could even paint that space black if you want to go bold but a medium to dark gray would likely show wear less.

...and, if your ceiling has a light brown or tan (without a pink or yellow hue) and you are determined to paint your kitchen cabinets some color but have opted against white, you might at least consider using that color paint for your base cabinets.

You didn't say if the white paint in the rest of the home is primer or state your intent about changing that later. If you've opted for white walls in the living area, something to consider for adding color to your rooms is 4" horizontal wall paper tape at the top of the walls. You could opt for stripes or geometric design or pick a family interest and have it reflected in the design of the trim tape.

Just wanted to say, awesome home!

    Love your ceiling!

Hi Jason - I think your selections above for different colors will be awesome. Introducing the Kendall Charcoal as an anchor and accent is a great way to go. You know what you are doing, clearly. I would just like to suggest that your living room area rug needs to be much bigger - looking skimpy now. ;)

    Starting to come together now.

okay my bad Jason, I thought you were doing an open shelving look !

Everything looks great - awesome space!

Thanks for introducing me to Sea Salt!

Finally got the kitchen finished. What are your thoughts?

Hey again Jason! Thanks for sharing the finished product of all your hard work and great design sense! You must feel really relieved and happy - you put in sweat equity, right?

I think your space looks amazing and even though your last picture doesn't show it, I know it all opens up to a great room - the ease in entertaining and living looks awesome.

My only thought (which you may not want to hear or agree with) is the doorway with the oval glass insert - this happens to be a pet peeve of mine. To my eye it reads traditional and almost Victorian so when I see it in a contemporary or transitional setting it makes me crazy.

If you love the oval, and are not willing or able to replace it, please consider painting it the same shade of gray as your dramatic and truly inspirational ceiling. I think that will help to mitigate the contrasting styles.

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Best.

I agree with you on the front door. It's on the list of things to do. I have the crate and barrel aluminum barstools coming in I will have to post a picture of the finished project. Just finished the master bathroom. What are your thoughts.
I did a three piece crown with the wainscoting and chair rail

I think you did a great job on the kitchen, I love the Kendall Charcoal on the lower cabinets. I agree about the door. I also feel if there is a way to connect the cabinets to the ceiling with some trim and crown it would complete your look and draw your eye up more to that beautiful ceiling treatment. Great job!

I'm going to a crown to the top of the cabinets to give them a finish look.

What color would you suggest to paint the main floor of our house to get it ready to sell in a yr or 2? We have light stained hardwood floors (oak)? But because of the smallish windows throughout it tends to be dark. If needed I'll add a pic tomorrow ( I'm at work now) it's a 1955 ranch that needs a lot of updating!
    Send a pic tomorrow.

The ceiling is dizzyingly busy, and too low for such treatment. I think those darknesses under the upper cabinets. If they aren't, pick a way to lighten that area.

Hi Jason - my thoughts on the bathroom: I'm having trouble with the white of the wainscots is not currently working with the beige tones of the tile floor. Your challenge is to connect the beige floor tile to the gray counters to the white cabinets/sinks/tub/ceiling.
