I don't comment much on the Sans forum, but I used to have a very large aquarium and on top of the light was where I put most of my cuttings. Bottom heat is a lifesaver for hard to root and very slow plants. I have a bunch of Christmas lights I'm toying with the idea of making a large rooting mat with.

Mentha, there is another member here, Stush, he uses a large aquarium also but burns a candle under it and has good results.

So he puts the plants in the aquarium? I just had them on top. There were a few philos that grew into the water but not Sans. I have a couple of terrariums in storage I have been thinking of cleaning up for Wardian cases, since they already have heat mats underneath them.

Mentha, Stush puts his potted plants inside the empty aquarium and then warms it with the candle. It is pretty cold in Penn. where he lives, but he has those sans growing in the winter. You should pull those aquariums out and give it a try

woodnative, you put the cat IN the aquarium and leave the plants on top. I can almost guarantee it will not want to be on top of it again. ;)

Do you keep your heater on all the time or turn it of and on each day? Do you think it gets too hot? I looked at these on Amazon and they were selling a themastat as well. There were several brands available too. I am just mulling this over. I have glass shelves that are the right size for the mat, and there is an outlet nearby. Hmmm. Do you remember the brand?

It is a Vivosun Seedling Heat Mat, about $14 when I got it on Amazon. I do leave it on all of the time. It's in a styrofoam cooler. When I read the reviews it said better results if it was on something insulated. Do you think it would get too hot on your glass shelves?

I don't know if the glass would make it warmer or cooler. I am thinking oof getting it just for my hahniis. I think they would really take off. Are you seeing new growth on your big plant?

No new growth on the big plant, just trying to keep that one alive. It gets these spots that rot and i have to remove the leaves. I should probably spray it with a fungicide.

A number of years ago there was a blight that was killing roses, the stems would turn purple, brown then black - really ugly. I lost many shrubs. Someone discovered that spritzing them with Listerine stopped the spread of the blight. I wonder if that would help on the leaf spots?

I hope you can save it. That was a special plant.

Barbmock, it is a special plant and I'm really upset that it keeps getting the spots. It probably would have done better with a different caregiver.

I have one plant with a couple rot spots - so I gave it the Listerine treatment and isolated it - we'll see. I'm SMH at all the descriptions of Sans which state they are fool-proof, HA!
