I think you are on the right track with a marble backsplash. The traditional subway size and pattern are timeless and will be current for a long, long time but what is nice about a brick bond pattern is that it works with various size field tiles. 3x6 being the most traditional but a 4x8 looks fantastic as well. Some are using an elongated tile like a 2x5 to get a slightly more modern take on the look, either way you can't go wrong. The marble with add some visual texture but if you stay within the Carrara family it will be classy and subtle. One thing I might suggest is using a Calcutta Gold Marble or something with a little warmer and browner veining to it. It will help tie in the brown perimeter countertop with the white island top and the movement will be a bit more dramatic. I like taking design risks and adding color here and there but with a timeless look in your kitchen you can always change out your accessories to add your pops of blue and green without being married to those accents permanently. This way the foundation of your kitchen will stand the test of time and you can switch up the accents with current design trends more easily. Good luck!

I'd love to get comments/advice about these possible backsplash tiles. I love the glass . . Especially the herringbone beach glass. Hope the color is right. The solid gray blue tile is really pretty but too close to wall color. And still considering the marble subway but thinking we need more color.

I would do the glass your 1st thought I would not mix cararra and calcutta in the same space and especially since one is real and the other man made.

The stone and pewter accent or Lunada Bay glass herringbone tile is gorgeous. I have sold it and included it in many of my projects. I love the color you selected. I really think you can't go wrong with any of these options. But I do want to warn you that the herringbone tile will come paper faced which means it will be installed with the paper facing out. This creates a more organic type of tile set in many ways... Bc tiles can shift a little when setting them very slight but I've had perfectionist type clients that preferred a straighter edge so it's really just for you to be aware. I personally find a lot of beauty in the imperfections. Also be aware that with that type of glass tile you can see thru it and in turn you will see trowel marks on the wall behind. I recommend using a tile installer that has experience with paper face tiles and some one who is experienced with groove-less trowels. It will look amazing when installed properly and if you feel like the kitchen needs color then go with your gut. The herringbone is classic and very beautiful pattern. Nice selections. Thank you for your ideas. Tavia, I'm wondering if the herringbone tile I have is the Lunada Bay . . . the receipt just says Poseidon herringbone. And it has a mesh backing. I have looked for photos of it installed but I can't find any . . so if you have anything similar you can share with me, I'd appreciate it. I'll have to talk to the tile installer about your concerns - thanks for bringing that to my attention. The herringbone tile is my first choice!

If it has a mesh back then it must be from another supplier. I would just talk to the installer regarding its opaque qualities to see if he thinks you will be able to make out trowel marks on the wall behind the tile.

Did you use the Poseidon Herringbone Glass Mosaic? If so I would love to see a picture. I am currently deciding between Poseidon Herringbone and the Lunada Bay Agate in Rimini (blue 1x4 shown below).

Are you still loving your tile? I am seriously considering using it as well, with our new Ceasarstone Calcutta Nuvo countertops. My cabinets are white and my only concern is that the sample I received of the Poseidon Herringbone is quite light in color. I'm hoping that there's enough blue to "pop." How was your experience with the tile supplier? Was it Floor and Decor? Thanks for any insight you can give me.

Yes, no regrets at all! Our white Quartz is only on the island,but I think there is plenty of color on the backsplash to go with your white cabinets and counters . Some pieces are light but there is a lot of variation. We used a very light gray grout.

A few weeks ago, I was visiting a house that had this tile as the backsplash and I loved it!! So glad you went for it. Now I'm wondering if I want the same for my own backsplash, but I have granite counters and a very small kitchen and am wondering if it would be too much. I also have my eyes on some storage jars and now I think I need to go back to the drawing board...

I've been eying the same backsplash at Floor & Decor but not bought yet. We were going to do a white marble-like quartz but not sure if the movement in it would compete too much with the fancy backsplash.

What color did you paint walls and island? I've love to get some ideas on what works with this backsplash.
