Thanks so much, Dawn! I did not try the Texas forum; that will be my next approach if my current efforts don't bear fruit (or acorns!). I reached out to both Sunshine Nursery and Bustani Farms by email, and hope I hear from one or both in the next day or so.

Bustani Farms got back to me and directed me to Sunshine Nursery. I sent an email to Steve B at Sunshine (a hearing loss keeps me from calling him on the phone), and hope he answers it. If I don't hear from him within a few days, I'll get someone to call on my behalf.

Typically they won't ship...but he should have some in stock...he introduced a form into the nursery trade.

Rick, I purchased my Quartz Mtn Live Oaks from Sunshine, however I don't think they ship. I helped Poaky get one, she lives in PA, you might want to see how well hers does first...this is her first winter.

Hi Joe, checking in during the East Coast blizzard. I was able to get through to Sunshine, I might be able to get a small QMLO shipped...have to follow up again later closer to Spring. We'll see! Keeping a close eye on what Poaky reports on the other Live Oak thread.

Hi Joe, thanks for touching base. I was unable to get Steve at Sunshine to reply back after several further attempts to move forward with a purchase from him. I have no idea why, maybe he had second thoughts about the trouble it would put him to sending one by mail. HOWEVER, after Miketropic in the "Most successful try at Live Oak" thread shared about his success at ordering one elsewhere, I contacted that company and am happy to report I received it in the mail yesterday. It is really a small seedling, just under a foot tall and thinner than a pencil, and received bare-root. I am grateful to have it, but a bit nervous that it will survive. I planted it in a pot rather than out in the yard, thinking I may need to overwinter it one year or so before exposing it to my zone 6b winters. I still wish Steve at Sunshine Nursery would follow up. I can't call him due to my deafness, and he's not answering my emails. Want to call him for me? :-)

Rick, how is your Live Oak doing?

Hi Joe! My QMLO is going great, having gotten through my SE PA zone 6b winter with flying colors. It has almost doubled in height (to 19") from when I first received it last year, and is fully leafed out. I'm pleasantly surprised how dense the new growth is. In late winter I also picked up a Texas Live Oak (Q. fusiformis) from the nearby Lancaster PA nursery I learned about on another thread. It is 27" tall and also thriving. I could not be happier with their progress, notwithstanding their small size; my reading indicated that smaller trees adapt to being transplanted faster than larger specimens and often overtake bigger transplants, so I am content. I'm not much worried about the coming winter, having small, bottomless black plastic trash cans, held in position by small tomato cages, around both of them. The black plastic absorbs winter heat to create a warm microclimate around them, and the durable poly cans keep the critters at bay.

Can you tell me where you purchased your live oak? I also live in 6b (Evansville, IN) but am from Texas, and am dying to have a live oak that will survive!

Hi Jamie, I got my Texas live oak from https://www.gonativetrees.com/. They do mail order. Though they lost their leaves in the latter part of the winter, both my Texas live oak and the Quartz Mountain variety got through the cold and have buds swelling. Looking forward to long-tern success with both. Good luck!

Rick -Do I follow that you got two Quartz Mts varieties from different sources? I am a nubie to the quest, and will follow up with www.Alligator.com... My son has a gorgeous tree in New Braunfels TX, but we do not know which variety it is, and I am going to try growing one in Danville IL...
