The mineral oil will saturate the wood, making it very water resistant. Three good coats are soaked in already. I will need to oil it weekly for a while, then eventually monthly forever after.

It's not all shiny like that now, with the oil soaked in, but the grain still shows like that.

Hi Cathy, it's been a bit over a month now--can we see the island top now? Are you loving it?

I am loving it! It is perfect for breadmaking, the kneading and shaping of a loaf. I try not to use it as a cutting board, but I have sliced bread on it. No pic right now, as I oiled it just last night and added a bit more oil to the places where it soaked in completely this morning. Maybe tomorrow for a pic!

So happy to hear you're loving it! It must be a pleasure to work on! I notice you have an outlet on it. Do you use small appliances on it? I'll be looking forward to the picture! :-)
