I didn't have luck with the bio bags composting at home. I started using the green bags that we put veggies in at grocery store, dump the goodies in compost bin and take trash to can. I used to put them in a bucket and use it to pick up dog dirt in the yard. ( reuse, repurpose)

AFAIK, biodegradable plastics are still petro-plastics but with a weakening starch mixed in to help the stuff break up into teeny tiny little dusty rubble with the application of composting resources like bacteria, fungi, and heat. They are still mainly petrochemical plastics, and the biodegradables just make it LOOK like the stuff is gone.

If you grind something fine enough, it's out of sight and out of mind. Mother Nature will break it down eventually, but the time scale is highly speculative and is linked to political orientation.

On little politically incorrect and inconvenient fact is staring us right in the face here. If the plastic is truly "forever", as some of us claim, then there is no chemical threat from any contained/buried amount of it, is there?

Bags made from vegetative based starch, not petro chemicals, would be acceptable. The "If You Care" product states it is made of potato starch while the other doers state that some petro chemicals are in the product.

I have had a very poor impression of the compostable bags. When I've used them, even after several years in a worm bin they are pretty much intact, and I need to just take them out and throw them away. I actually find that plain grocery bags, either paper or plastic, are much superior. Even a plastic grocery bag deteriorates with exposure to a compost pile and some sunlight. I don't purposely put plastic grocery bags in my compost, but unfortunately find a fair number in the shredded leaves and trees that I use as an organic amendment.

I just put my scraps in a small pail and take them outside every couple of days. Otherwise I have lots of fruit flies.
