Overwatered bamboo?

Assuming it's over watering from image search over watered bamboo.

The last few days here it was extremely hot and windy so I over watered to compensate. So, if anything it's to imagine it being under watering.

The shrivelling of the leaves/sickly look started a day or two ago, but was only slightly noticeable. Two days ago I took the first photo (ordered as the second photo in the album)

In that time it has deteriorated rapidly. The second photo was taken today.

I've pulled the plant out of the pot and the roots seem completely dry.

Is this overwatering? In the past if I haven't watered the plant enough it has taken quite some time to show the effects. Plus, as I said, I had watered it excessively just before it started to look sick.

But what confuses me is the dirt/roots are dry!

It's a hot and dry day and based on the soil it seems I should water it - but I don't want to make it worse! thoughts?
