Wood/Faux garage door prices

Real wood doors look great. However, faux doors offer great advantages.

We have a door budget.

Where do you buy garage doors cheap that look like real wood? Some faux doors look real from afar, but up close they don't. What do you advise?

Go look at them in person. Avoid "the look or real wood"-- the raised grain is a dead giveaway of a fake, just use a flat material, like actual wood would be. Garage doors aren't cheap anywhere, as far as I was able to determine. We had ours made from Azek, I think they look OK. Not cheap, but they won't rot.

either real or none. I have seen one at my neighbor's garage. Looks bad when sunlight hits, and it is less than 6 months old- her house is range $500K and up.

Real might be nice but some areas such as in FL can't have real because of wind concerns.

Following. I'm planning on a new garage door this year and would love the look of stained wood. But it's a north-facing door so would get hit by snow piling up in front and wind, and I feel that a real stained wood door would soon look worse than a painted one, and harder to maintain?

i looked at steel wood-look doors from my garage man, and they look fine in the sample piece but I don't know about from afar.

What about sources? HD sells clopay, however they are pricey. There are lots of online places including eBay. Where do you buy garage doors from.

We went to our builder's job site of another build. The owner insisted on Pella from Lowes. Saved some cash, but they weren't the same quality as Pella dealer direct.

Oh. And are wood doors as good for insulation? Our garages will be heated.

Pella makes overhead garage doors? And i would not use a wood door in a heated garage. Personally I would go insulated vinyl (Clopay or a Gadco, but good quality).

Interesting. It will be heated (somewhat). Steel doors seem to be most popular. They just don't look as good as real wood.

Cheap doors aren't going to look good. IMHO, the only doors that really look good are custom made at considerable expense. That's why I hate the trend of sticking the garage out in front of an otherwise good-looking home. We pushed our garage back as far as we could to minimize it's appearance. I would like to some day build my own custom carriage doors, but it's low on my priority list.

Wood doors can be made with insulation, and I'm sure they could be engineered to FL wind standards, but they would probably cost as much as the car behind them!

You can have anything you want as long as you have the budget for it. If you have a low budget, your taste had better change. Nothing wrong with a good Clopay insulated door. If you think it's too ugly, then shoulda thought about that during the house design phase.

We ended up using Martin wood faux insulated doors. They look great and perform well in a heated garage cold climate. The drawback, pricey
