Cold Storage Venting

We are in Eastern Ontario and are building a home. The roof is on and we are at the rough-in stage. There is a cold storage room in the basement under the front entry. The front entry is surrounded by 3 walls.

The cold storage will be used for food storage including some root vegatables and requires some passive ventilation. The basement door to the room is an exterior insulated door. The front porch slab and step has not been poured yet.

The concern is where the cold storage room will be vented to?

We would prefer a passive ventilation solution if possible.

Option 1: The builder suggested the option of putting the 2 vent holes in the riser of the step. This is concern to me due to the proximity to the ground (with snow/ice/rain), and having two vents facing the walkway to the main entrance.

Option 2: Venting on the far right side of the home (away from the gas meter). The distance is far and the pipe diameter may be limited in size, unless we do a bulkhead in the basement. It may also require a fan to move the air due to the distance.

Option 3: Float 2 - 3" pipes in the porch slab to be poured. The slab is 10.5" thick. Then elbow into the garage wall and back out to the stone or vinyl side wall. Not sure if this will require a mechanical fan.

Are there other options?

Any thoughts about the listed location options, air exchange options with each solution (passive vs mechanical venting required)?

Thanks
