Either one of those would look good in your kitchen. Of course the lighter upholstery would stain easier. Have you thought of going with backless? We did because we didn't want the visual clutter of the stool back above the island.

The stools should match the island as must as possible. Almost look as though they were made for each other. See attached photo for example

The white looks too white for your cabinets. Go with the gray--it will be more of a neutral.

Have you considered an upholstered stool? IMHO you need a little color and texture to warm things up. Leather is very cold and sterile looking.

I have kids, so I was thinking the faux leather would make for easier cleanup. Maybe something lighter like this one?

Yes, that's nice, but I still vote for upholstery. Sunbrella makes great indoor fabrics now, that are washable and stain resistant. Lots of colors and patterns.

What about an accent color?

I vote a dark color. If the white of the stools doesn't match the white of your island or kitchen, it's tough to see past. The dark ones go well with the dark cabinets and hardware.

Maybe these.....I do need some color and will definitely bring in with accessories.

What are the colors in the adjacent rooms? Are you planning on window coverings? You could have a fabulous Roman shade made and coordinating upholstered stools. Take your time on this. These are the finishing touches that will be like the icing on the cake :)

The entire house is pretty neutral. I am planning on Roman shades in the kitchen and living room. I like this stool if I can find something similar with a navy seat. Then the shade can coordinate with navy.

How about a different color? Navy is dark and neutral and you already have lots of neutrals. Upholstery is where you can have fun! A lighter, brighter color for some contrast and interest. Yellow, turquoise, pumpkin, lime green?

Also, texture is important, leather, pleather or wood don't give texture. Everything is very sterile and cold right now.
Time to have fun with textures! Linen or Sunbrella fabrics are great.
