Pantry Re-do, etc.

I've been reading this forum (and occasionally posting) for a while, and now I actually have a project to share! :) We've been in our house for nearly 24 years, and it only recently occurred to us to make the pantry better. It was a lovely little space with wire shelving and horrid bi-fold doors. Small things were always tipping over and it wasn't very efficient.

DH came up with the idea to replace it with cabinets. We got them from RTA Cabinet Store.com. He installed two base drawer units and two 42" tall wall units. They are all bolted to the walls and to each other; it would take an earthquake to knock this stuff out! He finished it nicely with trim work.

I love having all the wrap and baggies in a drawer!

Of course, redoing the pantry led to reorganizing the kitchen after all these years! I moved the coffee mugs and glasses to the refrigerator/sink side of the kitchen (duh - never occurred to me before!). I also moved the glass baking dishes and mixing bowls to the bottom cabinets and put the plastic containers and such in the uppers - much safer for this short person!

We'd had the wire baskets and pan pullout for years; DH just now added the pot/lid pullout and the shelf pullout that now holds my oils, vinegars, spices, etc. Gee, what a novel idea - having the cooking ingredients where you cook! LOL

I only cook when I absolutely have to, but at least now it will be easier to get to things!

What a wonderful redo!! I have a similar pantry and now my wheels are spinning about having it redone with some drawers and cabinets. Things would be so much easier to organize and find.

It's wonderful!!! I think your new pantry redone like that is so much more attractive, not to mention efficient. When I helped design our kitchen remodel 7 years ago, I also has a shallow drawer put in for plastic wrap, aluminum foil, Ziploc bags, etc. And another for spice jars. You're right, it's so handy! Thanks for sharing with us. I love seeing good remodels like yours.

Love the skillet caddy. Saving in my idea file. I presently stack 5 skillets and it's a big pain

What a great update! You obviously have a creative and talented husband.

That's a great re-do, and I also like what you did with the skillets!

    Wow! Wonderful!

I really, really want a skillet caddy like that. :)

    How nice! What great ideas.

Great redo, it looks so nice exterior and interior, and so functional. I also keep all the foil, plastic wrap and zip baggies in a drawer and got one of those under-shelf hanging baskets for the back-ups, utterly convenient. Your hub did a terrific job, maybe he's hoping you'll cook a little more? lol

I love it! It's so much better.

Thank you, everyone! The skillet and the pot/lid holders are Rev-A-Shelf from Lowe's. The pullout is Ornamental Mouldings from Home Depot.

I don't know if he's hoping I'll cook more or not. I'm really bad at it and have no desire to get better. He's very willing to go out to eat several times a week. :)

That is an inspired pantry and your DH is beyond handy!

Rev-a-shelf is just about the best thing that ever happened to kitchens. We retrofitted our base cabinets with revashelf units several years ago and doubled our storage space. Your organization is fantastic!

Yeah, the hubby is very handy! He also puts up with me, which is no small feat. I think I'll keep him! LOL (We are coming up on our 33rd anniversary.)

    Great job on the pantry!!

I'd love to have organized space like that! Our pots/ pans cabinets drive me crazy... Think I'll have to go for some pull outs:)

Oh, Donna - this looks fabulous! What a clever way to redo this space. It now looks so nice and neat and highly functional. A vast improvement over those bi-fold doors. Well done, lady! (And lady's DH!)

    Great Job!

I love it and trying to figure out where I could do this in my house. i already use drawers, a lot, in my kitchen...pots & pans, wraps, spices...so convenient. ;)

One thing that I noticed is that you do lose some space when converting the closet. I don't know if I would want to give up those corner spaces that I tuck out of the way rarely used items.

Have wondered how we could redo our end of the hall bifold door area with wire shelves....your idea is wonderful ! I am going to save this for sure. Thanks for posting. And I have several cabs in my kitchen that never got organizers in them...duh...8 yrs now...I am going to look at the revashelf and see what I can get DH to install. c
