I would also reconsider the texture - a shag seems like an impractical choice for the dining room (difficult to move chairs in and out and any crumbs/spills will be stuck in the rug forever).

Rug should be 24 inches wider than than the table all the way around. So if table is 48 x 72 inches you need a rug that's 8 feet by 10 feet but you could go larger if the room is large.
