Recycle windows?

We are replacing all the windows in our home. I was wondering if I should take the old windows to the landfill or if we should try to donate them or sell them. The home was built in 1929 and the wood is mahogany. They are pretty much white on the outside. Some are also painted on the inside but the majority are not.

Oh please try to find a home for them. Look for a rebuilding center or salvage business in your area. A few phone calls or a Craig's List posting should do the trick.

We live in rural Wyoming where there are not a lot of people nearby looking for these.

What are you replacing mahogany Windows with and why?

We are replacing them with vinyl but keeping the posts between the individual windows. They will look very similar but will have double panes. The reason for the change is because when the north wind blows in the winter the curtains move even with the windows closed.

Ok energy efficiency. Probably too late now but did you look into storm windows? Usually provide comparable or higher R value to replacement windows while maintaining historical integrity of home...

Yes, we did discuss that option. We would have had to refinish all the windows on the inside and repaint on the outside. So getting new ones will be a cheaper option. My husband got a very good price on the replacement windows and will do all the work himself. It will be a big project though what with 14 windows upstairs and12 on the main level plus sunroom windows.
