Thanks for the link Tawny and question AS. We will not have much light till sometime around Valentine's Day. Really feeling the darkness about now.

If you're just worried about the short days, I wouldn't fret about that. These plants go semi-dormant in winter (some species go completely dormant) and I think the rest actually does them good. But I notice they are much happier when we have a lot of sunny days in winter, so if I was supplementing because of dreary days, I would probably leave them on to match the day length rather than extending it. But a lot of people do grow under lights to give them the same day length year round, so it's certainly not going to hurt anything.

thanks Denise. That was helpful. That's what I do right now for my other plants, I leave them on daylight hours. So I think I will do that for my hoya, just leave it on for ~9 hours.
