It's gray, cold and white in the Piedmont area of North Carolina too! We didn't get as much snow as they were predicting, but it's still enough to cover everything and close my office for the day - so I'm a happy camper!

Yesterday I was getting totally confused by the weather forecasters as to which storm we would see, Jonas or Ilias. Now they're naming winter storms as well????

Donna, Wednesday, northern Va & DC got a dusting-1 1/2". It completely shut stuff down & caused chaos. 5-6 hour commutes. Unfortunately, that wasn't the storm to be concerned with. We are expecting blizzard conditions later today & tomorrow!

Yes, Metro bus & subway has decided to close...an unheard of decision. I'm not sure how people will be expected to move around to/from necessary jobs without them.

Our reports now say we could get 24-30"!

People are probably upset because they haven't learned how to deal with a lot of hype. They knew it was coming and should have been prepared. Same way with hurricanes. Make preparations at the beginning of the season. That's a lot of snow, Jennifer......probably like the deep lake effect snow we dealt with in Indiana. Keep warm, fire up the fireplace and have the treadle available. We've had hard rain during the night and this morning. Right now, we're under a severe T-storm watch.

We are expecting just a dusting, but that is enough to empty the stores of milk and bread. Gotta have those milk sandwiches. Sounds like a great day for sewing.

Sharon, you've probably seen it with hurricane predictions, but often the weather predictions & hype are so 'off' sometimes then people decide not to listen the next time.

This time people are realizing that something is coming, and then panic sets in.

All you folks in the eastern part of the mainland, please follow Vasutx's advice - stay warm, stay safe, stay home. Get some quilting done if you can. Jennifer, I'll be watching for your photos. You really don't want to know how it is here in Hawaii.

Only 60! I will take that. It is pretty cold here but we have so far been spared any major snowfall. But it is still Jan.

We are supposed to get 1 to 3 inches of snow, to add to our 2 inches of rain we have at the moment. I went to the grocery store yesterday to stay away from the crazies today. Honestly, I passed a grocery store on the way home and people were waiting for parking spaces. I am just glad that my husbands auto parts made it here today, that way we won't be cooped up in the house together. LOL He can be in the garage and I will be in the quilting area.

My mom lives near the TN/VA line and has 9 inches of snow right now, with more to come. My brother is outside of DC, so he will have a bunch too.

Snow started here about 11:15 this morning. As of right now, we have 4". The heaviest snowfall is expected tonight through all day tomorrow; ramping up to 1-2" per hour soon.

I have finished the binding on this, and have fabric cut for a 12" paper pieced block.

My area is expected to get up 24" ( north of Baltimore) Oh joy! I went to the grocery store Wednesday nite and got the last quart of milk...you would think we never saw snow before...it's crazy. I blame the media hype, but then again I think the media needs to hammer the message in for some.

Well I'm hunkered down; the city released us from work at midday, came home and made two of the 8" blocks from Elizabeth Hartmann's Patchwork City quilt, this is my 2016 project...could spill into future years. As long as we have power I hope to make a few more over the weekend.

the wind is just starting to howl...time to curl up under my quilt!

Jennifer, your quilt is beautiful, and so small! I bought 6 mini quilt patterns at the quilt show I attended recently, and I plan to start them soon.

They have revised our expected high temp today from 60 to 45 (big difference!). It's gray and very windy and spattering rain.

We had a wind chill of 32* around noon today. I've stay inside allllll day! I'm allergic to cold. lol

Other than a few flakes yesterday, all we got was cold. Hope everyone has power and is staying warm.

Teresa...I'm not really using a color palette for patchwork city, but rather 95% cotton and steel fabrics I've been collecting. Any time I saw some C&S on sale I would get 1/2 yard or a few FQ...they all blend well together. So far 9 - 8" blocks complete, not sure how far I will go with this...many, many small cuts!
