I would cut back what is in the way or if it is to thick in spots, so far I don't have that problem, mine kills back every winter.

You've done a good job letting them be for a while, more wild growths = better hardening off = better winter survival. Now you can cut some of the thin ones out which die anyway, [in spring when you see what is dead]. Focus on one or two main leader, [heavy canes] which are most likely surviving the winter, this will be your live line, from the main leader you'll get fruit but trim back every spring.

Thanks, guys! I think I'll just trim the vines that have erupted through the eaves and are making a run for the second storey of the house. I certainly did not expect 'valiant' to be such a vigorous vine; it strangled its 'beta' and 'frontenac' neighbours last year (with my permission/benevolent neglect; they never flowered).
