Hi,

This is my second year in Charleston SC, having moved from Boiling Springs NC and I have a quandary with my tomato plans. Essentially, I will be in Charleston (zone 9a) through June and from June through mid-August will be back in North Carolina (zone 7a) before returning to Charleston. Over the past few years in NC, we usually have 18 tomato plants or so of different varieties and jar it as salsa during late July, August and September.

Last year, my husband went up in mid May and planted tomatoes, but they weren't ready to be picked by the time we left. We are woefully short on salsa this year!

I'm thinking about starting the tomatoes in Charleston in some kind of portable pot that I would then plant in June when we get to NC. We do have the back of an SUV and a small trailer we can use to transport. However, with them having probably almost 60 days of growth by June, I'm worried they will be too big or that the trip may be too stressful.

I am looking for any ideas on this one! I hate to not have home grown tomatoes-they are one of my most favorite things in life!
