What's your general budget and what style do you like?

Filip, I like modern and traditional styles. Not sure about my budget.. $2000 maybe? I plan on leaving the white appliances and flooring but would like to change everything else.

When you say you like traditional, what traditional do you mean? That term can mean a lot if things. I like the idea of Roman shades. with a nice valance. The color would need to be bold to bring on the pizzazz. Not necessarily bright color, but not muted. I'll have to chase down some pictures to see what I can add to explain. It's hard to give advice when I don't know your preferences. lol.

Would any of these give you an idea?

I would do the window treatments as Peanutmom suggests, Paint the cabinets white, change the hardware, you can order online to get a good price and there's a Countertop kit that you can get at Lowes or Home Depot to make it a nice sharp contrast to the white, a black or gray finish. and then add subway tiles in white and grout it in gray to make the subway tile pattern pop in a herringbone parttern to keep it interesting. Add under cabinet lighting. Add two or 3 pendant lights over the peninsula depending on the size of it. (and this is if your budget is tight.)

I was thinking about ordering a new laminate countertop because I'm not sure how I feel about the rust oleum countertop kit, is that the kit you were talking about? How do they look anyways?
