I'm lost

Houzz has made a mess of this site. It's there even a way to search?

I wanted to search wintersowing canvas.

Thanks,

Karen

Type what you want to search for in the search bar at the top of the page and a drop down menu will appear that you can use to search within this forum only. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks. When I tried that this morning it gave me home remodeling ads.

kqcrna - you have to be careful when you try to do a search to begin by being in the forum you want to search, and then watch for the autofill suggestions, so for instance….you do a search on 'containers --- in winter sowing'. It's been my experience that the search function on Houzz, is not all that great.

Thanks, Prariemoon. Nice to see you again. I don't visit that often anymore so it's nice to see an old friend.

Hi Karen, I felt the same way, nice to see a familiar screen name! I used to be here every day and I haven't had the time I used to have, and since they've changed over to Houzz, it hasn't really been the same, to me. You used to be able to depend on at least the Winter Sowing forum being busy in the winter. [g]

Btw - when you do a search, don't forget you can adjust the results in the order you prefer them. The default setting is by 'relevancy' I prefer latest activity most of the time and there's a drop down menu on the top right of the results that allow you to do that.

    What's wintersowing canvas?

Thanks, Prariemoon, it does seem to be working now. But I find all the non-gardening stuff on this site to be way too distracting. I'm simply not interested in it.

Allthingsplants it's my new online garden haunt. It's far more active, too, and we have a wintersowing forum...

Thanks for the reference to a different gardening site. Nice to have options. [g]

Damn, I tried to answer your email and couldn't even figure out how to do that. Houzz really sucks. It sure would be nice to have our old forum back and I'm glad to have found a new online garden home elsewhere.

Looks to me like this forum has had 2 posts in a week's time... to each his own...

The ATP WS forum has had 2 responses in the last week. GW has had 7.

There are several wintersowing forums on Facebook. I believe a lot of people have moved there. As an additional inspiration, Trudi has Winter Sowers there, still as good and relevant as ever.

I'm still wondering what the heck "wintersowing canvas" is.

As for the search here not being that great, the search function on the old GardenWeb was way worse. Before I would often have to go to Google to find a thread I was looking for, but not now.

Rodney, I'm not sure what "wintersowing canvas" is. I'm kind of curious, too.

You're right, the old search function want good either. Now, houzzzzzzz only sometimes let's me sign in. Stupid. I'm simply not interested in all the these non_garden related ads and baloney. Is there a way to turn off ads?

You guys having problems with ads, I recommend downloading uBlock Origin. It's available for Chrome and Firefox. It's completely free and it's the best ad/pop-up blocker I've ever used.

I'll still be lurking the GW forums, though. I'm too comfortable with GW's setup and I can only manage one forum at a time. Good to have options, though.

I use adblock plus and I never get pop ups. But the hou-zzzz ads are enbedded in the pages. I don't wa t them. At my preferred garden site I can turn off all ads.

I know the ads are irritating to me, too, but I realize someone has to pay for the site and if there weren't ads, it would be us. I wouldn't mind paying - I paid back when Spike ran GardenWeb so I wouldn't get the ads. Now there's not a choice, and I'm not sure I would be willing to pay for this particular site anyway. It's just not active enough.
