Help! Black stainless appliances, need range hood

I have purchased Samsung Black Stainless Steel appliances for my kitchen reno. I am running into issues because no one seems to make a black stainless steel range hood. Can I put a standard stainless hood over a black stainless range (and close to the black stainless fridge (it is one 30" cabinet and one 30" pantry away))? Would a black gloss painted hood look better? Idea's and pictures if available would be great! Thank you!

My husband and I are building a house and bought all samsung black stainless steel appliances. I am having the same problem and I can't find a black stainless steel under the cabinet hood type =( We have cathedral ceilings in our kitchen so I don't want to do the full range. Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated! =]

They now make a black stainless range by Samsung to match all appliances. I will post photo next week when my appliances are installed!

I see some of the manufacturers now starting to roll out the Black Stainless Steel Range Hoods. Check out this sleek and elegant design by Zephyr ZRV-E30BBSGG. You can purchase wall mounted range hood at Zephyr ZRV‑E30BBSGG for $899. They come in three different designs. I am planning to install the curved glass ZRV-E30BBSGG in my kitchen to complement the black stainless appliances by Samsung and light gray cabinets. Stay tuned for some pictures once our house is ready in a month!

I am having the same problem! although I need an under cabinet black stainless steel hood! I see the correct color available with wall mount hoods but not under cabinet? has anyone seen anything that would be helpful? thank you!

    John Roberts...

What color sink and faucet did you use?

I have all black stainless appliances and am installing new med brown counter tops on my grey cabinets. I need help deciding on a sink color.

So, finally we moved into our new house and have all the appliances installed as well. It's time to post some photos of our kitchen with Black Stainless Steel Range Hood by Zephyr ZRV-E30BBSGG. It perfectly matches with the rest of the Samsung appliances. I have been using it for about 2 weeks and I can say it does the job well. I bought it for $900 and got it installed for $150.

Etesh. I just bought the same LG set. There was no way I was spending another $1,000 on the hood. Lol. Looks nice though

I just got black stainless steel appliances (samsung) and am hunting for a moderately priced hood for my kitchen remodel. This forum is definitely the most helpful. Thanks for starting it. I was hoping I could make do with the $250 black range hood but I might just have to bit the bullet and spend the 1k on the samsung hood. Does the Zephyr work on 9ft tall ceilings?

Austin, yes, if installed 30-32" over the range. Mine is also 9ft ceiling.

Thanks!. I've decided to go with the Samsung. Apparently its has some bluetooth connect to their cooktop where it'll turn on with the cooktop. I'm hoping they will integrate that with a stove in the future - it doesn't currently. You can also download their app and control it from your phone (the same app as their fridge uses). If you have a samsung fridge like I do, I figure its worth the few bucks extra (when on sale) since I already have that app.

I have white cabinets, and black/black-stainless appliances. I have a white range hood. I didn't want the white uppers to be broken up by dark.

After some patience and alot of luck, I found the matching Samsung range hood at bestbuy, open box, for 600 (or 400 after the rewards from the fridge and dishwasher). No brainer. So after a bunch of work and even more money, it was the right choice:

My wife and I just put ourselves in the same predicament. Have all new black stainless appliances but need a matching island range hood! (Come on Samsung), make an Island range hood already! Can't you tell there is a demand! lol

I too have Black Stainless Steel appliances and I think I will go with the Stainless Steel Hood. Looks awesome Kamie

I'm seriously having this same issue just bought all the LG appliances in black steel and the only who sells black stainless steel hood range is kitchen aid. I don't even know it'll match. I'm sorry worried. What did you end up doing for your island hood??

I am in the process of looking now. My husband is wanting the glass hood and it has black on it. I really am not going to get bent out of shape over this bc I have even seen Stainless Steel hoods mixed with Black Stainless steel appliances and it looks nice. There are some photos on this sight with people who have done this.

Black range hoods are definitely becoming increasingly popular. Even so, stainless steel often goes well with black appliances. Recently, we built a stainless steel range hood and had it satin black powder coated, on top of that we added some polished copper strapping. Check it out!

That is really a beautiful item. For me, personally, it's not ever anything I would want in my own kitchen - I have never liked the dominating look of those large hoods. I don't want to even see a hood - I want it to blend in. BUT - if I had a huge designer kitchen like many of the people here on HOUZZ, I might consider that one! Really nicely done!

Absolutely, thanks for saying so. Indeed, hoods aren't for everyone (especially one that dominates as the focal point of the kitchen). They are almost always better in expansive kitchens :)

It seems to have disappeared. I can see it when I am logged into our account but if I open this thread in a new browser it doesn't appear...strange

It's gone for me too. So odd!

Austin Ngo when you bought your range hood open box, did it come with two duct covers....upper and lower? When we bought ours, it appears we only received the lower cover sheet metal and not the upper cover sheet metal.

So I wasn't here when they did the install however, looking at it, there does seem to be two pieces. the upper has some.. kind of vents on top even though I have it routed to go outside. Anyways Here's a pic. I would go back to see if they had the upper lying around somewhere. I looked to see how much the upper would cost and it looks like its sold out - however the lower cost 350 so... wow!

Also, I don't know if you've already seen this, but best buy keeps an online inventory of their open box stuff if you scroll down to their "buying options" drop down and you select the check store option for each condition. Its not 100% accurate as my fridge wasn't listed when i stumbled upon it in the store, but you can at least buy it online before going to each store to find it and inspect it. good luck!

Thanks for this information Austin Ngo! We are most likely returning the open box item. I called samsung to see how much they sell that upper metal piece...and its $370! The part is just too expensive to replace. Might as well just buy a brand new one lol. You got really lucky with yours! So jealous! lol.

Also one more thing - how is the noise level and the air suction? Is the noise level pretty low when set to the highest setting? And does it suck the smell out pretty well too?

    last modified: 8 years ago

The noise at really high is noisy, but I think it’s to be expected -it’s moving a lot of air. I usually set it at medium and it seems to do the job and isn’t too noisy. I upgraded from this high end over the range microwave with a built in range hood that also vented outside and had 650 cfm - a much higher power rating than your average range hood. But i realized my mistake - it’s not only the power, it’s also the size and placement of the vents. the suction vents in a stand alone range hood like this is larger, mich larger than a microwave with built in vents, so it’ll catch more. We cook with a lot of oils and seafood (Asian cooking). I can attest that this is a lot better BUT if I were to do it over again, I would get a larger size range hood, 36 inches instead of 30, so I would get an overlap of 3 inches on each side of my 30in stove. The steam, oils, etc don’t always go straight up, especially if you stir fry, and there is only so much a range hood can do.

Zephyr has a couple Black Stainless steel under-cabinet hoods. Breeze II, Cyclone. Not bad pricing either.

having hard time finding blackstainless steel built in wall oven and microwave

I would get a hood insert and build something custom. This is the inspiration pic I used for my kitchen. I’d post a photo of mine but it’s still in progress.

I am planning on using a Stainless steel/glass hood that has black accent.

I also just ordered the full suite of Samsung Black Stainless Steel appliances and am struggling with the range hood. The Samsung model is very expensive and the Zephyr model suggested above is actually even pricier. Has anyone found any other less expensive models that match Samsung’s black stainless steel?

Each company has their own shade of black stainless steel so you’ll be better off sticking with the same brand. Best Buy lists their open box items online. You can see if a Best Buy around you has a discounted one by navigating to the Samsung range hood model you want online and expand the “buying options” section. But don’t trust the rating. Sometimes it’s better, sometimes it’s worse. Looks like it’s priced at 650 to 780 for the open box ones. Happy hunting.

Shopping from Canada... Best Buy only has one open box one listed close by and it’s 1600CAD - more than current list price! I guess I’ll just have to keep looking out for it as I only need it in the fall.. I just hope Samsung comes out with a more basic model by then!

More than current list price? If they are like the bestbuy in the US, its probably a mistake. If its close, check it out and maybe they will adjust it for you. I wouldn't hold my breath on them coming out with a cheaper model - the cheapest option is to get their under the cabinet microwave.

Another note about the under the cabinet microwave, even though it has a vent, the vent coverage will not be as good as these range hoods. I cook with alot of oils (stir fry, etc) and discovered my mistake. Still could be an option for you. Good luck! Post a pic if you are redoing your kitchen. I didn't upgrade my stove and I was wondering how the samsung stove fairs. The range hood has this connectivity to the cooktop, but not to their current stove! I'm hoping the next year's stove model will have that as well!

That’s one of the reasons I’m extra hesitant to get their range hood... the price makes sense given all the added features - except the connectivity feature is useless to me! Ah well.. I still have some time though as we only get the house in mid-summer.. I will post pics once it’s all set up! :)

We are getting the black stainless Samsung appliances, too. I am rather tempted to go with the stainless range hood. We have white shaker cabinets, stainless pulls, stainless sink, stainless faucet. Might actually switch to the stainless Samsung microwave too. Thanks for everyone's photos.

I already bought the black stainless steel refrigerator a few months ago, in full remodel now and can't find a reasonably priced Island Hood. I bought a Whirlpool, found the dishwasher, cooktop, double oven, no hood by Whirlpool. May go matt black since my sink is black granite with black faucet.

Best buy has a sale right now on the range hood - 980 plus an extra 100 gift card... and if you already have a best buy credit card, check your email for the coupon to get an extra 10% back in rewards. Puts it at 782 if you are able to spend the 198.

I can across this post. I bought lg black stainless and now need an apron front sink. Will regular stainless go? I don’t know what to do. I really wanted stainless sink.

If they are close enough together and on the same sight line, it won’t work because the apron front and the appliances will draw your eyes to them In my opinion, it will look a bit off. Best to be safe and Try a black or white apron sink. Love those farmhouse apron sinks. Good luck. I’m sure you now know that there are even different shades of black stainless steel between brands! It’s a pain. Good luck post photos!
