That takes care of about half an acre. Still gotta haul about ten truck loads. This garden needs a lotta help. I figure two more years will put it in good condition.

After a bad experience with composted stall muck, I'm curious, have you run any tests on the compost?

Good question. No, we will be planting corn, milo and other crops little affected by broad leaf herbicides there for the next three years.

The deer here seem to be repelled by the corn we grow. So, it seems like a good plan. We'll see.

I wonder if onions would work too.

Onions should not be affected.

The corn you guys are growing sounds interesting. If I come up with seed, I may try something similar.

Keeping deer out of my sweet corn has only been a third of the equation. Raccoons and crows wreck havoc on anything the deer don't eat.

As of right now, I still plan on heading up on the 14th, to help with planting.

Oklahoma soil makes very good potatoes. We have just finished eating the frozen potatoes. We are now starting on the canned potatoes.

Preparation for planting is almost complete.

All 16 tons of compost have been distributed at about 2" thick and plowed in at about 5" deep. The total area covered was just short of 1/2 acre. When I was moving the compost it seemed like a lot but now the garden has swallowed it leaving little evidence of all that work.

When I finish the slant fence, I'll start the next compost pile.

I have already talked with the Director there. If the weather is nasty, he will let us cut potatoes in one of the barns. Also, there is a kitchen and restroom there. I am thinking about hot cocoa.(;-)

I am very motivated to plant the 14th, even if I get wet.
