Moving to a smaller bedroom help

We will be moving to a home with a 12x15' master bedroom and 8 ft. high ceilings from one that's 20x20' and a 10 ft ceiling. Where the scale of our bed is perfect now, it won't be in the new house. There is a window which will be above the bed at 58 inches so our current headboard (64 high) will not work. I want to do a new, simple headboard but our current mattress, which we love and was expensive) is very deep at 16 inches. Include the box spring, frame, bedding and I've got close to a 34 inch high bed. I'm afraid that is going to look out of scale and overwhelming, with or without a headboard so I need to bring the bed down lower. btw its a california king. I am considering a platform bed and eliminate the box spring but I'm worried the mattress will look too deep unless it is sort of buried in the platform....which I cannot find in any pictures on any site. I also have to do this on a budget. The room is the exact layout of this picture. Window above and one half window on side wall.

I think you will be able to find a platform bed with the sides covering the bottom of the mattress. Something like this?

Take advantage of all the space beneath your mattress try and find a platform with a hinged mattress support. They're more common than they were a few years back and are easy to use and so helpful for storing little used items or off season items.

Thanks for the suggestions. Do you know the height of the first pictures headboard? I think 47 inches might be too low. How can we tell how deep the mattress is sitting in the frame? I'm looking for around 54-57 high for the headboard and around 11 inches from floor where mattress will sit.

I do not need storage under the mattress and the mattress is too thick and heavy anyway.

The picture I posted was just the first bed that popped up on Wayfair when I looked for a bed that seemed to fit your criteria. Just an example of the style that I think may be a good fit. Do you have any furniture stores like Crate & Barrel or similar near you? I think you need to go in and have a look at the beds and ask questions about the height of the platform inside. With Wayfair, you can e-mail them and ask. They are usually pretty responsive.
