Finish my pine base

We recently installed a hickory hardwood floor in our kitchen. I will be installing pine base all around. What can I do to make the pine base look good with the hickory? Stain? Polyurethane? I need some ideas. I am attaching a photo of the floor and one piece of the pine base. Thanks in advance.
