This is a nice tree and you could leave as it is. If you do prune it, prune it just below on main stem where largest leaves are. It looks that there are many lateral branch nodes already formed lower down and these will grow after pruning.

If you are wanting a fat and squat type tree (Arabicum). You should see if Jericson has some. He has started many and may part with some. If not, he could definitely help you. He has also done a lot of caudex cutting for centipede/root trained trees.

First of all you need to choose what is the frontside of your plant. The frontside of your plant should always have a resting bud (at the node) directly below the point where you want to make the cut. Then make a 45 degrees cut. Look at my illustration below:

After a few weeks, the apical bud (and possibly more buds lower on the stem) will develop into a new branch. Chances are good that this new apical branch will hide the cut - if you 1) follow my procedure, 2) prune from early on (cuts on older bigger trees are more difficult to hide), and 3) make sure that the tree gets strong 360 degrees sunlight.

What a nice little plant, I wish I could find adeniums at my local box stores! I wouldn't prune that one I would let it grow naturally til it is bigger and needs to be pruned back to help shape it more then follow martins instructions but right now it looks good! Unless you want to experiment with it, keep us posted! You live in Florida or Southern California?

edit: oh yeah if I didn't have to be in hydroponic media because of my living situation I would pot it up in 2 parts rinsed Pumice, 1 part coarse perlite, and one part cactus potting mix. I would also use things like compost tea, and manure from different animals, as well as sea kelp, you will find all kinds of mixes on here if you read through the threads.

I currently live in a "duplex community"and there's no water hose I can use outside... But I have a bathroom the size of a small bedroom which helps plus a bedroom for all my plants during the cold months where I keep my tent. That's why I've been expierementing so much with the hydroponic thing. I don't have to worry that much about a bunch of dirt getting washed down my drain.
