I think we all agree on what type of mantel to get...........everyone pretty much pictured the same thing...

Go white, unless you want to distress it up w/ a reclaimed piece of wood. Nice room. Add some drapes to soften the look or the harsh blinds:

I love the idea of a reclaimed plank for mantle. The hard surfaces of the house/architecture elements are very light in color (floor, wall color & trim). But your furniture & accent pieces are definitely darker. A dark wood plank for the mental will complement your furniture better. You can see that with S Mistry picture or the pic. below from PB website.

I wouldn't go that dark or glossy. Your furniture is warm and somewhat rustic. Dark espresso with a glossy finish isn't very warm. Plus, it's dated!

@groveraxle like first pic not to dark and set my new distressed mirror..

Had to guess at the size of the new mirror, but frankly, I like the old one.

I like the mirror alot. Did you try resting it on the mantle instead of hanging like your inspiration pic?

mjsilvas, because your tile surround goes all the way across the wall, I would take the mantel from end to end as well. You could do an unadorned timber, or one with molding like your inspiration, but have it go all the way across. It's gonna look great.

Perhaps sharing some fireplace projects of ours it will help you move along with your mantle plans.

Once you have your fireplace the way you want it, it's going to be a big statement in your room. You'll need to beef up your curtains so that the look is cohesive. Roman blinds would warm up the space. Natural or fabric.

The style of the entertainment center is reminiscent of Restoration Hardware's Printmaker's media cabinet. It would look great without the hutch. With the hutch, it will tower over everything else in the room and look off-balance, I think.

I have a big bare wall, so I thought it would be a great to purchase a big piece..

mj, not every space must be filled. You haven't shown us that wall, but looking at the photos of your fireplace, I think I'd rather see something on that wall that is more the height of the sofas. You could add art or even more floating shelves above, but the hutch feels a bit heavy for such a open room.

Could you give us a photo taken from this far back...

...but move to the left and aim more toward the corner so we get a view of the big blank wall along with a bit of the fireplace wall and the backs of the sofas?

    How about some curtain panels?

I wouldn't put a huge wall piece there. It'll compete with and dwarf your fireplace focal wall.

I would do a longish media console. Look at the Dawson from Pottery Barn.

If that's a good deal on your entertainment center, I would go for it. Love the printer's drawers. You've done some great creative work in this room, I'm sure you could make this entertainment center work beautifully.

something is off and i cant put a finger on it, but i feel like the room is confined by the rug or something

@flair lighting those squares are for surround sound and rug is temporary looking into these 2..

i think the rug is too small, or the wrong shape, idk something is un balanced with the weight of the couches and the fireplace, square might be better. also waiting until you get the console might be a good idea. what about curtains for the windows?

@flair lighting you are right rug is too small (7x10) like I said it is temporary and ordering an 8x10..

    Definitely top one grover

Agree, S Mistry. As entertainment centers go, the bottom one isn't bad, but it already looks dated. And clunky.

    It's rustic not clunky

I think it fits that wall perfectly. It complements what I can see of the rest of the room. Lots of character and storage. Good choice!

But you want the height in the room coming from your beautiful fireplace. With long gorgeous curtains. Not a large piece of furniture to close in the room. My two sense for whatever it's worth :)

Then you also have issue of filling all those shelves with nice pieces. Small, impersonal trinkets from Homegoods won't cut it.

are putting in surround for all those dots? could you paint the covers out the wall color if not?

@flair lighting of course going on 3yrs in our home and I actually found them tacky but I guess they grew on me, my hubs said they are really easy to patch and cover..
When we purchased our home 3 yrs ago it actually at the time a 7yr old home and we just love the open concept, I disliked the mantel and removed it right away..
    Sorry wrong pic

The fireplace and the entertainment centers are on opposite sides of the room. who is going to look at both and size them up? Open concept shouldn't mean symmetry. Balance is what you want. The rustic mantlepiece is hefty with visual weight which would balance with the entertainment center. If when installed the space doesn't feel balanced, then you add something to the fireplace area. I think that having drapes with some weight, preferably a warm colored fabric roman blinds will make a dramatic difference in the fireplace area. Most importantly, do what you like!! 100 opinions don't matter as much as your own preference.
