Dark or white nightstands?

I'm slowly redoing my bedroom and am trying to figure out what color nightstands I should get. The master is small, so we've decided to really make it cozy and go with a dark wall color. Here is the room before some changes:

On the left is double bifold doors with a closet that runs along the whole wall. To the right, you can pretty much see the corner, there's another window right off to the right.

These are what I am going to hang over the bed ( An Amelie movie reference for anyone wondering). They've been framed in wood frames slightly darker than the head board and matted since this photo was taken. The image backgrounds are more green than what is shown.

And finally, this is where I'm headed. The duvet set, lamps, and throw pillow have already been bought. The duvet cover has a slight green tint that doesn't show up in that picture We decided to work with the smallness of the room and make it cozy instead of bright. The mercury lamps really helped add more light to the room, and are more silver than gold.

All the doors and trim are white. I'm looking for smaller nightstands, but really can't figure out if I should go dark or light. That wall color can change, but that is one that my SO and I actually both agreed on. The rest of the house is planned to be a palette of grey/greens and grey/blues. We have a lot of wood features throughout the main house.

I think I would do white or light. Smallish chest of drawers and maybe a wood topped table with white legs? Probably wouldn't get matching but that's me.

Is your headboard staying? With the bedding changes you have in mind I'd be inclined to paint it white because it looks very rustic now, more like something you'd have in a cabin in the woods. Perhaps you could paint it and the side tables a soft white. I really love the art above the bed.

ingrid_vc so. CA zone 9 We actually live in an alpine cottage in the woods :) This is the main wall in the open living/kitchen:

The finished basement had old barnwood as a casing around a doorway, as well as a plank walls. I was trying to incorporate the feel or the rest of the house, which would be rustic with some modern pieces, and I collect rare books and antique knicknacks that are displayed around the house as well.

missymoo12 The bedroom right now is an off-white/beige color and it really just makes it look small. I figured if a light color can't make it look bigger than it is, play up the smallness and make it cozy/dark/warm. There is a dark wood dresser in there already

Well, that changes things a bit, doesn't it? In that case the white nightstands might look a bit out of place. Maybe they're best off just left as they are. Very nice windows and great deck in front of it.

I think that maybe your bedding and lamps are a bit too "glam" for your room - the wood headboard, etc. I LOVE that 2nd pic that Ncsoccermom posted. Something like that would look great in your room!

Hmmm, you might be able to make the lamps work, on second thought. I looked back at NC's picture again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I love that wood wall image! I chose the lamps because the room needed more light, and I thought the mercury lamps would help reflect the light off of it, almost like putting a mirror behind the nightstands do.

So many choices! I really like the black nightstands in the second picture, and love the white with dip dyed legs. I might pick up a couple cheep ikea nightstands and paint them the white/silver first and then go black if I don't like it. Its so hard to find matching nightstands on craigslist.

You absolutely don't have to have matching nightstands.

One can have legs, the other drawers…. don't be afraid to mix it up
