He suggested louvers stained to match garage door. They look like shutters. I am not a fan of shutters.... The closet needs to be a functional space. I will be losing part of it with the window.

If the window(s) do not interfere with a good closet layout, then the simplest option is to apply custom light-blocking/filtering screens/shades to the outside or inside of the windows. The benefit to having them on the inside is that they can be more decorative. They will block the majority of the UV but still give you filtered light depending on which light-filtering % you order.

On a recent project I had spec'd all the master suite window coverings to be mesh blinds, (TheShadeStore.com) so I ordered additional material and created frames for each of the small (15x15) windows in the closet. We built one portion of the closet cabinetry directly over the center window, but from the outside all the windows still looked the same.

We have a brick Georgian from 1920 with windows in two of the walk in closets because that is simply where the windows needed to be in the symmetry of the exterior design. It isn't a problem at all. The windows are permanently shaded, and in one case have shelves built in front of them floor to ceiling. The shades we used let in some light, but not enough to fade anything, which actually creates a lovely effect.

Tint the window to stop the UV from penetrating the space.
