Question about potted heucheras

last modified: 10 years ago

Hello all, I grow a good many heucheras in ground and pots. A problem I have with potted ones is whenever I try to up pot or divide, the bigger mama plant goes down quickly....it doesn't usually die, although a few have, but never grows well again and certainly doesn't recover to the beauty it was before... I have also bought plants that are really root bound and the same thing happens when I give it a bigger pot. I have no problem getting babies off and rooting them and have rooted single leaves but this one thing is stumping me. Do they not like to be disturbed? Are they like hostas and like to be root bound? I can take a root bound one and put it in the ground and it's happy!

Help! What am I doing wrong? I may can live without being able to up pot them but I need to know why! Haha

I have been gardening for 40 years and successfully grow a variety of plants....so am not a newbie...

Thanks for any info,

Gloria
