I usually make up my own using compost, shredded mulch and promix that we get from our local place that sells mulch etc. The babies that I root love it and grow well...hostas also...

Good advice garcanad, maybe I do bury the crowns without realizing it.

Hi Gloria, I too like to divide my heuchera and have had mixed results. That crown in the middle, sometimes woody, is a tough one to get going again. When I remove pieces from around the main crown, I often am left with no or few fine roots. The fine roots are what feed the plant. I just figure I will sometimes take losses when I divide. I might try bottom watering new starts regularly this year to keep the potting mix damp but not soaked. I usually do top watering and not often enough to the potting mix evenly moist. The advice about the crown it good too, I will watch out for that.

Thank you Beverly! Just knowing someone else has had this happen helps. Not that I want either of us too.....but maybe some plants just can't take it. If I do divide again I will for sure be more careful to watch out for the crowns...
