The drive isn't bad but the traffic is, sigh. My mother asked me to take her to an antiquarian book show on that day, if we have time maybe stop at a C&S nursery out in Pasadena. I'll catch the shows coming up closer in to LA. Anybody else going?

I would rather have gone to this plant sale than gaze at $45K tomes in plastic/under glass...I actually like to READ my books, not invest in them. Oh well. I did manage a visit to California Cactus Center on the same day at least.

At least you can go to look at those books. My husband as an original King James Bible that might be worth about half that amount. He has it wrapped in wax paper and never takes it out.

I'll bet that show was spectacular, thanks for the heads up Jeff. Unfortunately, being in Florida precludes any thoughts of seeing a show in San Diego. Sure would like to some day though.

San Diego is the mecca for unusual, rare plants for some reason. San Diego county and points down south (Vista, Fallbrook) are the destination for so many growers that also sell retail, we go to get bigger, healthier, cultivars we can't find in LA at discount prices. Must be the weather!

Next Obsession, the dry climate and moderate temps make San Diego area excellent succulent country. And I suppose excellent people country too, certainly better than Florida for many people with our heat, high humidity, rain and hurricanes, not to mention bugs you can throw a saddle on. This is good aroid country though.

I've only been in Calif on my way to and from the Vietnam theater (Thailand) in 1968 and 69, it'd be great to see it under better circumstances. Being from the flat Florida east coast, driving Highway 1 along Calif, Oregon and Washington coasts would be fascinating to see.

Yes Russ, all that and the proximity to Baja Californai and plant exploration in Central America I suppose. Yes indeed, we have a lot of mountain ranges here in Cali. Sadly, most people don't know their names!
