Just a thought. I have had trouble with heuchera that were planted late in the season. For me, experience has told me that spring planting is the only way to go. Don't know if this would help.

Thanks, Sherry, but in each case I had planted them in the spring. Oh, well.

This is what i find works for me. Heucheras hate poorly drained heavy soil but thrive in well-drained soil which has been organically enriched. They tolerate acid, neutral and alkaline soils and prefer part-shade and part-sun. They particularly do not perform well in locations with poor drainage during the winter months. They should be divided every 3 to 4 years to keep the vigour or they will decline.

Not all heuchera are equal I have great luck with the villosa varities like Caramel .

Thanks, Dawn. It's possible that in each case I had the plants in areas of too much sun. This last one was planted where it would be partially shaded by other perennials. Hope it's still with me this spring. I will keep your advice in mind.
