Clueless about kitchen sinks!

Sorry for my cluelessness but what does a zero radius sink mean? I've read this forum in my quest for a new kitchen sink and read about a zero radius. I need to order my sink in the next day or so. I'm having my granite installed March 1. Sensa Waterfall from Lowes with Kraftmaid Gentry White cabinets. Any suggestions? I'm looking at Faucet Direct. Open to any and all suggestions for sinks and faucets!

Zero radius is a perfectly square corner, some find these hard to clean.

Have you thought about single or double sinks? Size? Depth? Material?

As it turned out, I found that I needed to put a whole lot more thought than planned, into our kitchen sink. It was one of the toughest decisions, surprisingly.

Faucetdirect.com is a great company! I've order tons of stuff from them. Do you want a single bowl sink? Check out their selection of Kraus sinks. Reasonably priced, good quality.

Ahhhh Makes sense. I don't want anything hard to clean as my housekeeper (DH!) wouldn't be happy about that! :)

I want double bowl sink as I don't have a prep sink. I'll check out Kraus. I wasn't happy with the sink selection at Lowes so I'm looking elsewhere. I have a 36" sinkbase.

A lot of us here have Blanco Silgranite sinks and love them. They stay new-looking more than a stainless or porcelain sink.

Mayflowers, precis or diamond? I'm perusing the faucet direct website now!

    Kohler has great sinks.

Is super diamond the same as Siligranit II?

super diamond is the style (big single sink, offset drain) Silgranit II is the material.

"I want double bowl sink as I don't have a prep sink."

Maybe. Maybe not. There's been a lot of discussion here about single vs double sinks, and it's worth a look because people are really passionate about their choice. You might find that one argument or another resonates with you, and that's what you should do.

Personally, I'm in the single sink camp, no prep sink either. I've found that the large size is so much more useful. I always did the washing up in the largest pot needing to be washed. In our old house we had the Kraus 32" single and it was lovely.

Kraus 32" sink, currently on sale at expressdecor.com for $284.95:

In our new house we've installed a Kohler Stages 45, which isn't even close to $285 :-(. It's not hooked up yet, but I go over and pat it occasionally. For drooling purposes:

We've considered a single basin. However, I'm wondering how that would work in our flow of cooking with constant use of a garbage disposal. I usually have a sink of hot soapy water as I prep/cook and in the other sink i put my scrapings, etc down the disposal.

I think if that is your comfort zone on how you prep/cook/wash, you are probably right in sticking with a double sink. I put most of my garbage in a bowl that goes out to the green waste can and use the disposal for the bits that get away. Carrot and potato peels tend to stick in the grid which is a pain. On the plus side, the grid keeps stuff above the bottom so water and small garbage just washes away underneath. Different strokes.

I have a single with a grid, and I just got this collapsable tub for soaking, and I love it. I cook and bake a lot, and I love being able to put any pot, pan or sheet in my sink.

Look at a double bowl with a low divide - meaning only a 4" tall divide between the two sections. Once you fill the sink over the 4" divide, you have a large single bowl sink. Drain a little water & you're back to a divided sink. I have the Kohler Irontones Smart Divide 70/30. I love it. I had a traditional double bowl sink in my old kitchen - a low divide is nothing like the old double bowl. The 70 % side easily fits my largest pots, skillets & cookie sheets - but I still have the option of filling the whole sink.

Do you have a dishwasher? If you are doing most of the dishes in your sink you want a double bowl. When I redid the kitchen I made a conscious decision that I was going to put absolutely everything into the dishwasher, no more hot soapy water sitting in one side of the sink for me. Peelings go into the compost bucket (blanco solon). So now everything goes in the dishwasher and I have a lovely large single sink that is absolutely empty most of the time. I have the silgranit diamond sink, everything that they tell you about it being easy to clean is true, everything that they tell you about how fragile it is before it is installed is also true.

Or get a single bowl and use a dishpan if you need some soapy water. There are some cute, collapsible ones that up very little storage space when not in use. Or use the biggest of whatever pot you just used as a dishpan. Or skip wasting water with a sink/pan/pot full of soapy water and just wet the items with the sprayer, put soap on your brush/scrubber/washcloth and wash, then spray to rinse.

I feel I have to google a question a day while on Gardenweb...my first question when I started perusing GW was "what does DH mean" :). To much terminology over my head! Lol!!!

I usually buy from faucetdirect.com for kitchen and bath fixtures, but don't forget that Costco online has some good deals on several stainless sinks, too:

If you have a dishwasher, look at an asymmetrical double bowl sink. The large basin is large enough to wash large pans while the small basin (which should contain the disposer) is handy as a substitute prep sink.

We wash a lot by hand and, after having a single bowl sink in our last kitchen which I liked because of the ease of washing large pans but didn't work well for us because we wash so much by hand, we went with the Blanco Silgranit Performa sink which has a 60/40 split with a low divide. It's the best of both worlds because we have a double sink but it's still easy to wash large pans. Also, I love my Silgranit sink. I would never go back to stainless.

I don't have a prep sink and this is my first single bowl and I love it. I'll never go back.
