I agree. It does read pink in the photos. Sometimes with only one tile you don't get the right read from how it will look overall. We put in this travertine look tile in our kids bathroom a few years ago and it does read pinky beige. Also if it's real stone there could be a lot of variation in the tiles - with some of ours we had grey, whitish grey, pink, pinky beige, taupe etc..

It does read very pink on my monitor. Something like this is contemporary and would not show dirt. More on the gray side.

I think that tile can certainly be modern. What size is the tile? It will read more modern if it is a larger size square tile (24" square or larger) or if it comes in a rectangle size. If you want a modern look I would avoid 12x12 size tile. It tends to look very traditional.

Just checking -- you live in a cold climate and really want tile in the living room? I shiver just thinking about it!

It is a temperate climate and we have underfloor heating. We'll put timber in the sitting room. The tile will be in the kitchen and living area in the same room. I don't want to split the room into two floor finishes.

It is very important to take tiles to your home as the light will affect the color artificial lights are not good for making color decisions.

I love the tile in the photo Brick wood Builder posted, seem very modern, straight lines, linear, and simple. We have also used the gray wood look a like tile in many house, just another options, but may not be modern enough for you.

I really like the wood plank porcelain floor tile suggested above. I just used it in my bathroom but I choose something more "driftwood-y" with a darker grout.

If you want traditional tile then I'd go with your choice but in a larger size for a more contemporary/modern feel.

reba120, I'm sorry but that photo was one I found on Houzz and the individual who posted the photo does not specify what any of the products are.

Like the top one in the first picture. You mentioned wanting to go with grey and a more modern look. This one is sitting on a grey background and just not loving it myself.

I would go with a rectified porcelain 12 X 24 textured tile in a light color. Laid tight & with same color grout to make it look more seamless. Very good cleanability & looks very modern.
