Install Hardwood Floor

We purchased this home exactly one year ago today. While the house was in the location we wanted, it's layout didn't fit our needs. It also had carpet throughout the house. We hate carpeting, especially someone else's dirty old carpet. We tore out one of the three bedrooms to make a combination dining/living room. We also tore out the chimney, from the roof to the basement, that was just in the wrong place for our layout plans. We tore out the carpet, removed the padding and the OSB boards, leaving just the 3/4" plywood subfloors. I replaced any subfloor panels with large holes or warps. The floor squeaked in spots, so I put 2" drywall screws between each nail of all of the subfloor sheets. This is to ensure that, even the ones that don't squeak now, won't in the future. I then laid the premium 1/4' underlayment down and screwed it to the subfloor with 1" drywall screws. We chose the finished Hickory to give us a rustic look with lots of color. As I am a retired vet with joint issues, the project took over 2 weeks. I'm sure someone without my health issues would be able to do it all in about 2 to 3 days.

You're right Carole. We ARE taking our time. We have so many projects on our list, but we've given ourselves 5 years to get them done. I think we're on schedule. Installing the whirlpool tub that we bought into the bathroom is our next big project. I NEED THAT TUB!!
