Ouch. You're entitled to your opinion of course. As the architect I'll chalk this comment up to the fact you can't see the surrounding houses in this photo. Context is an important factor in design, especially in dense urban neighborhoods such as this one. Accordingly the project makes more sense when compared to the surrounding houses - in the use of the siding, roofing and original window locations. A brand new-looking house on the site would have been less......interesting, no matter how modern or traditional I could have made it. I invite you to visit Portland to understand the house better.
