ceiling light or ceiling fan?

My bedroom has 12' ceiling. i've got oversized lamps on my nightstands. should i install a light or fan in the room? if a light, what type? oversized drum pendant or chandelier? i don't like traditional style, but lean eclectic. i like to mix things up. the paneled wall is peppercorn & the headboard is ivory velvet.

thank you for your advice. btw, please disregard christmas paper over window. roman shades are being made as we speak.

i prefer a fan, it makes for more nights you can have the windows open in summer and nights that have to have a/c it makes sleeping with a higher temperature setting possible.

Where do you live? In the South where I am, ceiling fans feel practically required in the hot summertime. They can help you use less air conditioning and can be worth their weight in gold if the air conditioning dies in the middle of August. (I speak from experience...)

Could I suggest a ceiling fan with light kit? That way, you get the best of both worlds and those really nice-looking lamps ensure you have more than one layer of light on hand. I went to look for some fans that have a cool look to them. Note that many are available in a few finish choices, which may include white, as suggested above. Let me know what you think--if none of these appeal to you, we can also look at light fixtures!

Im in the deep south and I refuse to have ceiling fans in my rooms. Reason being they bother my eyes (physically) and don't like the sounds, and don't like the looks. I much prefer a small black pillar fan on my nightstand pointed right at my head, or a fan on the dresser. I feel those cool much better. So based on that Id say get an awesome chandelier or flush mount fixture. This clover style would look amazing

If you need the fan than choose a fan with no ceiling light. My tastes are more modern and I personally don't like white fans but there are some stylish ones in steel. If you don't need the fan or are like me and hate them over the bed than choose a modern chandelier style fixture not a flush mount as your ceilings are lovely and high. Your room has a lot of dark colour so I'd pick something in steel or chrome with glass to bounce some light around. Error on the side of big so it doesn't look skimpy. Gorgeous bedroom!
