I always put a color catcher in with a gift with instructions on how to use it and where to get them.

I label the back with my name and date but also write washing instructions on that label. I suppose those with an embroidery machine can do it up fancy.
Bev, you can easily make labels by having a rubber stamp made and using a "permanent ink" stamp pad, stamping on a piece of muslin before you stitch it on. I'm thinking of doing that myself. Once stamped on muslin, it doesn't wash out. The stamp pad must be kept closed as it dries out faster than normal ink. It would give you the "identity" of always having a standard looking label. I'm assuming people still sell rubber stamps and pads these days. That ink is used industrially so might be sourced on the internet.

I make a 3-line label: Name of quilt, Date, Giver's name.
On a separate piece of paper I have folding instructions.
I haven't bothered with washing instructions because I haven't wanted to scare the recipients (all family members) into thinking the quilt is "too good" to use. I prewash fabric as I get it and wash each quilt when I'm done.

Thanks everyone. I had not thought about folding instructions, that is a good idea. Like the stamp idea, too. I will look into getting one made.
